Akhtar Alvi
Akhtar A. Alvi, P.E., is a business management consultant. He is a retired civil and environmental engineer and a U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin. He earned a Bachelor of Science and two Master of Science degrees in civil engineering and taught civil engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also developed irrigation and hydropower projects for the government of Nigeria and managed engineering and environmental projects for oil and gas companies in the United States and for the U.S. government.
Akhtar A. Alvi, P.E. has dedicated over 50 years to management consulting, financial planning, public speaking, training, and coaching professionals worldwide. In addition to academic instruction at two universities, he has managed projects and businesses internationally. Mr. Alvi is the author of such titles as The Qur’an, by Verse: An Easy to Read English Version, God’s Guidance For Humans, and Understanding Human Nature and Eternal Life.

- Managed Law Eng.’s 40-person environmental division. Diversified the client base. Increased fees from $1.5 million to $3 million.
- Managed Texaco’s $1.1 billion refinery expansion. Completed it over a year ahead of schedule and $200 million under budget. Published three papers on the project and presented them at the annual conferences of the Project Management Institute and the American Associations of Cost Engineers.
- Negotiated with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency, USA) and managed engineering, procurement, and construction of a seven-acre, $13 million hazardous waste encapsulation project at a refinery.
- Managed a $500,000 groundwater study of 11 leaking brine ponds at a gas processing plant. Managed the relining of a six-acre brine pond, a $750,000 project. Completed in 3 ½ months, two weeks ahead of schedule.
- Managed a five million dollar, 12-year environmental cleanup project at a gas processing plant. Renegotiated the consulting contract to reduce the overhead from 15% to 10%, saving over $300,000. Changed the project’s technical direction for savings of over $500,000 and completion a year ahead of schedule.
- Negotiated feasibility study contracts with international consultants in Nigeria. Managed studies for developing irrigation and hydropower in four river basins (39,000 sq. miles area). The projects had a network of dams, reservoirs, powerhouses, pump houses,
pipelines, and canals.
